We were told that while we should be there while they packed in case they had questions, we did not need to be there while they loaded. Based on that, we scheduled our closing while they were at our previous house.
Takeaway and final thoughts
The next day, when we went back to clean and prep for the closing, the back door was completely open and the house was a disaster. Garbage and possessions littered nearly the entire house, including ALL of my rugs, toys, an electric toothbrush, as well as items that had simply been overlooked and were still in the cabinets (including my kitchen aid, bread machine, and crockpot).
Quit searching for movers, and hire Greenville's Two Men and a Truck!
3. I know there were things I could have done differently. I should have clarified why they did not finish packing the first day as promised. I should have also made sure we had someone there to do a final walk through when they were finished loading the truck, and probably arranged someone to oversee the second day of packing. I also should have been more active in ensuring that all of the boxes got to the appropriate locations.
We received an apology and small refund equaling less than 10% of the total move.
A bootprint on our mattress?!?! My husband and I have moved alot in our lives and have come to expect that there will be the normal wear and tear on our belongings when we move. I fully accept this. But when we unloaded our truck, we found the following: a 2 foot rip in our mattress, a BOOTPRINT on another mattress, gashes and dents in almost all of our furniture. And to add insult to injury- the person who communicated back to me after I emailed to inform him of these problems took ZERO responsibility. He informed me that all of this was my fault because I didn't supply moving pads for them which I was NEVER told I should do. I understand my share- but from my perspective, when a company does a job for you, and there is a problem, show some integrity and some customer service and say you're sorry. Ask how you can help solve the problem. Instead of telling the customer there is nothing you can do, and detailing the ways that the customer screwed up. If you want to have your stuff ruined, get blamed for it and work with a company with zero customer service- I say go with these guys.
They were scheduled to arrive between 2-3 but did not arrive until nearly 6. Nearly an hour into unloading I learned that they had not been able to load some items, including an area rug and my daughters mattress.
I called the company and the manager of operations came within an hour and a half, and had the same crew come out to load the rest of the items that had been left behind. (Please note, we were paying them over $100/hour to pack and had not set a cap.
The gentlemen were on time, professional and did a great job! Would recommend Two Men and a Truck to anyone and will use them for any future moves!
Note: Due to the distance, cost of the move itself was calculated based on weight of the items, rather than man hours.
During the second day of packing, their motto was apparently to use as many (very expensive) wardrobe boxes as possible, and to just dump everything in them.
We were very deliberate when we chose a moving company. We had 4 different companies come to give us a quote to both pack and move us. The representative from Two Men and a Truck was by far the most professional, which is why we chose them.
2. We did not treat our movers poorly. On both days we provided a stack of snacks, and cold drinks in the refrigerator. We also provided dinner because they were there so late unpacking. We also tipped them generously when they finished unloading (the first time).
Just hire this business and don't worry!
I took a video of how the house looked, and ended up sending it to Denise who is the General Manager for the area. She indicated that it would be used for training purposes to train their staff. I worked with her, and she ended up reimbursing the fee for half of the packing hours. She indicated that she was also not going to charge us for the weight of the items brought the second day.
1. We had an estimate and they looked at our belongings. They estimated that it was 6,500 lbs. The actual total was over 9,000, not including the items brought in the second load. An accurate estimate makes a HUGE difference in the final cost of a move.
This is the short version because I exceeded the character limit:
4. I don't remember specifically how much they charge for wardrobe boxes they provide, but wardrobe boxes at Lowe's are $11, compared to less than $2 for a large box. We have 10+ wardrobe boxes that should have been packed into smaller boxes, including several boxes we provided but they did not use.
I've had many movers over the years, and these folks are wonderful! They handle even the most difficult items with care, and I couldn't have been happier! On budget, on time, and great attitudes from each person involved!
They came day 1 to pack, but left after 4 hours with the job not finished and no explanation.
For example, in one box, a small safe was dumped on top of priceless salt-dough handprints, breaking them. In another, small drill bits and other tools were dumped from containers into a wardrobe box full of wood.
I've never seen such care taken with furniture, boxes and everything I owned. There was not one scratch on the furniture or floors (old home and new home each has hardwood floors) and nothing was broken. Both men were polite, congenial, and focused on the job. They surpassed every expectation and I would use them again AND recommend them in a flash.
If you're interested, let me know- I can send pictures of the bootprint.
